Jack & Jill Dayhome - Riverbend

A fun, comfortable place to spend the day.

What We Eat

I follow the Canada Food Guide in preparing menus for your child.  Meals and snacks are nutritious and kid friendly.  All food is provided once your child is eating "table food".  If she is on formula, and if she is still eating baby food you must provide these.

Meals are served at approximately the following times:

  • Snack             10:00
  • Lunch              11:45
  • Snack               3:00

We have a hot lunch every day. Some examples of our lunches are:

  • Roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, asparagus
  • Homemade soups (Chicken vegetable, beef vegetable, creamy potato vegetable)
  • Fettucine alfredo, ham, carrots
  • Macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, peas
  • Sausage and perogies, green beans
  • Baked beans with wieners and whole wheat bread
  • Fish and chips, mixed veggies
  • Chinese stir fried noodles with chicken and mixed vegetables
  • Roast chicken, baked potatoes and cucumber slices
  • Grilled cheese sandwiches and fresh veggies

Snacks consist of a combination foods from different food groups. Snacks usually include foods from the following list:

  • yogurt
  • variety of crackers (wheat thins, vegetable thins, goldfish, graham crackers, premium plus, ritz etc.)
  • cheese (cheddar, mozza, other mild cheeses)
  • fresh fruits (bananas, apples, pears, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, papaya, mangos, watermelon, honeydew melon, cantelope and more)
  • celery sticks, carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, green pepper slices, broccoli pieces, cauliflower pieces
  • raisins, dried apricots, dried cranberries, prunes
  • cashews, peanuts (for older children)
  • peanut butter bread, cheese bread, creamed cheese on bread
  • rice cakes

I do not serve junk food including cookies, cakes, candies or chips, ice cream or popsicles.

If you wish to provide a treat for your child on a special day, please bring enough to share with everyone.

At this time I am not accepting children with food allergies or special dietary needs. I do not serve "organic" foods, even if brought from home.  Different foods for certain children causes trouble with the other children who see someone eating something "special".
